On the afternoon of June 30, the College of Horticulture and Forestry held a farewell symposium for international students graduating in June 2022.
Professor Xu Qiang, Associate Dean of the Faculty, Professor Zheng Bo of the Department of Forestry, and Dr. Shoaib Munir, Associate Professor, Foreign Affairs Specialist, attended the meeting. Dr. UMAIR AHMED, Dr. FATIMA ZAMAN from Pakistan, Dr. MD ABU KAWOCHAR, and Dr. SHAHNEWAZ BEGUM from Bangladesh, four international students attended the conference.
Professor Xu Qiang expressed his sincere congratulations to all the students who are about to graduate and thanked them for their dedication to studying and living in a foreign country. During the discussion, Dr. MD ABU KAWOCHAR shared his wonderful research experience during his studies. Throughout the course of the study, the best research facilities were obtained, and the long doctoral journey ended in a happy mood. He also suggested that the college could develop a dedicated English-language website to help international students. Secondly, he suggested adding Chinese and English research directions to the dissertations/graduation theses of international students. He said that after returning to China, he will engage in potato research and looks forward to more in-depth cooperation and exchanges with Huazhong Agricultural University and the College of Horticulture and Forestry.
Dr. FATIMA ZAMAN, from Pakistan, said she has learned a lot with the persimmon research team over the past five years, and during her Ph.D., she has published one SCI research article.
Dr. UMAIR AHMED from Pakistan also shared his thoughts: it was his dream to study in China, and he has always been fascinated by the Chinese and its rich culture. At first, he faced a language barrier because he could not speak Chinese, but over time everything adapted and he had a pleasant stay throughout his Ph.D. He also mentioned the support and care his research team had given him during the pandemic and thanked the college and school for everything they had done for him during this time.
Dr. SHAHNEWAZ BEGUM, from Bangladesh, also shared her thoughts, saying it was a difficult journey with a lot of ups and downs, but she was proud to have successfully completed it. She also expressed admiration for the management of colleges and universities, as well as the resources that her research team provided to her during her doctoral studies.
Professor Zheng Bo also expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work with international students, and he hopes to welcome more students to participate in Doctoral or Postdoctoral Programs in the future.
Finally, Professor Xu Qiang congratulated all the students and presented farewell letters and gifts to all the international students who were about to graduate. After returning to China, he continued to maintain contact with the College of Horticulture and Forestry of Huazhong Agricultural University and wished them good results in their future work.
