On the morning of March 4th, local Egyptian time, a group of 12 faculty and students from our university visited Aswan City to participate in the World Design Studio. During their stay in Aswan, they had a meeting to talk and exchange ideas with Mr. Ashraf Attia, the Governor of Aswan Province.
The World Design Studio took place from March 1-10, 2024, and aimed to revitalize and redevelop three historic districts in the northern part of Aswan City: Gharb Suhail, Ezab Al-Kurur, and the International Park. The delegation comprised Professors Shao Jizhong and Zhang Wei, along with ten graduate students from the Department of Landscape Architecture at Huazhong Agricultural University. They work in collaboration with Dr. Ahmed Khaled and Dr. Ahmed Iraqy, as well as nineteen architecture students from Ain Shams University in Egypt. The project also received support from Dr. Sherif Salah of the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the “Study in Egypt” initiative, the UNESCO Committee, and Engineer Sayed Badawy of the Urban Planning Authority for Southern Egypt, among other institutions. Professor Wang Lei and Zhang Li, along with other faculty and students from the Department of Landscape Architecture in China and Clemson University in the USA, contributed to the project remotely.
Governor Ashraf Attia warmly welcomed the members of the delegation and highlighted the project’s significance for boosting the local economy and tourism. He expressed eagerness to strengthen the cooperation between China and Egypt through collective efforts.
Professor Shao Jizhong thanked the local authorities, professors, and students for their dedication to promoting international relations. He emphasized that the Aswan initiative would promote sustainable economic and tourism growth while enhancing the living standards of Aswan’s residents. The collaboration of the project provides a valuable platform for students to expand their perspectives and develop their skills.
