CHFS hosts a distinguished guest from Kyoto University, Japan

The College of Horticulture and Forestry Sciences (CHFS) of Huazhong Agricultural University welcomed Michitaka Notaguchi, a professor of horticultural plant biology at Kyoto University, Japan, and a chair professor of CHFS for a three-day visit from January 23rd to 26th. Dr. Notaguchi is a leading expert in the field of plant grafting, a technique that combines different plant parts to create new varieties with improved traits.

During his visit, Dr. Notaguchi delivered a lecture on his latest research findings, which shed light on the molecular mechanisms of graft healing and compatibility. He also introduced the Nicotiana genome database, a valuable resource for studying the genetics and evolution of a model plant species. The lecture was held on January 24th at 9:00 a.m. in Room 204 of the South Building of CHFS and was chaired by Munenori Kitagawa, a collaborator of Dr. Notaguchi at CHFS.

Dr. Notaguchi also had individual meetings with principal investigators working on grafting at CHFS. They discussed plans for the future establishment of an international crop-grafting center at CHFS and related research projects. Xu Qiang, Bie Zhilong, Ye Jie, Huang Yuan, and Lin Zongcheng participated in this discussion, in which they reviewed the contents of the plan and worked to refine their strategies.

The visit of Professor Notaguchi was a great opportunity for both sides to strengthen academic ties and promote international exchange and cooperation in the field of horticulture.
